On April 7th the Chargé d’ Affaires Chad Berbert hosted an Easter egg hunt for the children under the care of the Samoa Victim Support Group at his residence in Vailima. Embassy staff were also invited to bring their families to take part in the festivities.  In addition to hunting Easter eggs filled with candy, the children enjoyed soccer, volleyball, and bouncy castles.  A great time was had by all of the children and they conveyed their greatest thanks to the Embassy.  In addition to this special event, the Chargé presented SVSG President Lina Chang with 2 large boxes of books, toiletries and household supplies donated by the 5th Ward of the Pesega LDS Church.  This provides much needed relief to the SVSG safe house which shelters victims of abuse and neglect.  This was yet another way that the United States is showing that it cares for the victimized and the vulnerable groups in Samoa, and a strong relationship is forming between Embassy Apia and the leading social services organization in Samoa in SVSG.  [photos] [SVSG website] [US Ambassador's SVSG blog post]
